Crafts Museum: This Museum is situated at Pragati Maidan and forms one of the main places to be visited on your Delhi tour. This museum has galleries displaying India's rich tradition of handicrafts. National Museum of Natural History: It is a subordinate office of the Ministry of Environment & Forests. The basic aim of this museum is to promote environmental education and create environmental awareness among the people through various in-house and outreach activities. The Museum has various exhibit galleries, a Bio-Science Computer Room, an Activity Room and a Mobile Museum, which are used for promoting environmental awareness among different target groups. National Rail Museum: The Museum has a complete statistics on Indian Railway Networks. Here you can see the models of train engines and coaches, which are a delight for train-lovers. Its pride is a model of India's very first train, a steam engine that made its journey from Mumbai to Thane in 1853. The locomotives here are all displayed in the open although there is a museum as well, which is a storehouse of information on the history of railways in India. Nehru Museum & Planetarium: It was designed by Robert Tor Russel as the residence of the British Commander-in-chief. This museum in Delhi was built in 1948 to the south of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was later converted into the residence of the Prime Minister of India in the year 1954. The Museum has a library of printed materials, books, periodicals, newspapers and photographs focusing especially on the history of modern India. Among other things a repository of unpublished records of institutions and private papers of eminent Indians kept here can prove to be a primary source for historical researches. The prizes, awards and honors received by Mr. Nehru are also displayed here along with his photographs.
